Aqua and Pink Obi Fish-Kinchaku

$30.00

This super cute bag is shaped and scaled like a fish! It makes me think it should be hanging from the wrist of a geisha or maiko wearing spring or early summer colors. Normally they carry hard-bottomed drawstring bags called Kinchaku.

This bag closes with a drawstring, and closes with a braided set of cords. The strap is 2″ wide. The strap and the braided cording are made from a vintage belt. The main outer fabric is some aqua upholstery fabric scraps, and the scales are made of a vintage silk obi. they have black butterflies on and the butterflies have blue iridescent threads woven through them, so it glitters in the light. The way the obi was woven, the reverse of the scales is black with pink butterflies! The cream lining is the silk lining from a different vintage obi. The eyes are made of cheap earrings that have been altered and attached to the bag, and then reenforced with glue. The attachment was then painted with iridescent lavender paint, so that it looks like a fish’s eyestalk.
